The Aruacania Wandering Spirits knitting Book by Jean Moss contains 18 patterns using the Araucania cotton collection of yarns. According to Jean, “Some knitters have asked about the piece on the cover. The model is wearing Cruz, a mobius strip, which is knitted in the round with a twist. As with all scarves, it can be worn in various ways - around the neck, the shoulders or the head, as in this case. The dimensions of Cruz are given in the pattern in three sizes – the one on the cover is the small size and it’s wrapped around the model’s head twice.”
Pima, Organic, & Mercerized Cottons? What does it mean?
Pima cotton, also referred to as extra-long staple cotton, is a type of cotton, grown primarily is the US, Australia, and Peru. The strength and uniformity of pima cotton result in a more luxurious yarn. Organic cotton refers to cotton that is grown using production systems that reduce the use to toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Mercerized or pearle cotton refers to a chemical process that increases both the luster and tensile strength of the cotton fibers. Mercerized cotton will also absorb more dye and water than its unmercerized counterpart.
